There are advanced functions the the calculator app that few know of. Normally, it looks like this:
Try pressing the green button on the upper left corner. It Changes

This also goes for the ipod touch/iphone, if you rotate it 90°, then you will enter advanced mode
You can use a calculator without launching an application or dashboard. Simply launch spotlight (+space unless you changed it) and type your mathematical equation for example, i want to figure out what two time two is, so i type 2*2 and it will say that it is four
