A few days ago apple released a major update to their operating system for mobile devices. (And they also released the iPhone 4) Heres an overview of some of the new features:

Multitasking

Now you can run multiple apps and the same time and switch between them quickly. For example you can be listening to Pandora Simple double-Click the home button and the screen will slide up revealing a mini dock below. You can switch between pages by swiping left and right as usual, and you can even access control your music if you swipe left. To quit an app, simply hold it down until a red circle appears, and then press it. (NOTE: this will NOT delete the app it will just quit it.

Folders

Goodbye clutter of randomly organized apps. Now with Folders, you can organize apps however you like. Simply hold down the app you want to place into a folder until it starts wiggling, and then drag it on top of another app. Those two apps will be placed in a folder, which you can name. Each folder can fit 12 apps. Because of this, you can now install up to 2160 apps.

iBooks

With the release of the iPad, which was in competition with e-readers such as the Amazon Kindle, apple open their book market, called iBooks (no surprise there) It is available for free in the app store. You can download books from apple, some free, some paid, and also load PDF files via iTunes. (You can also you the free Kindle app if you choose.)

(in case you were wondering, I did not buy winnie the pooh, iBooks came with it pre-installed(?) )

Wallpaper

(Finally) you can change your homescreen wall paper!

Just like on the iPad, you can now connect any bluetooth keyboard to your iPod or iPhone

Combined Mail Inbox

If you have multiple accounts, you can now view them all in one inbox:

Fast Web/Wikipedia Search

To quickly search Google or Wikipedia, simply swipe to the left of the home screen until the search box appears, and type your query there.

Alphanumberic Passcodes

If you are really paranoid about your iPod’s security, you can set an alphanumberic passcode instead of 4 digit number one. To do this go to Settings>General>Passcode Lock, enter your current passcode (if any), slide the “Simple Passcode” switch to the OFF position, an choose a passcode when prompted.
